Terry is the grand master at Fitch & Ferrule with more than 40 years’ experience in the Auckland signwriting trade. He has directed his own sign making business for three decades, during which time he has carved a niche in the art world. Terry’s lettering, paint and brush skills are of a rare quality that has seen him described as the ‘world’s best sign writer’ by contemporary artist Billy Apple®. His portfolio includes exhibition signage for New Zealand’s premier art galleries and commissioned works for international artists and creative agencies.
Terry is meticulous, reliable, trustworthy and systematic – a reputation proven by a loyal client base.
From the day dot Ben loved to draw and create fonts in his Dad’s sign shop, so it was a natural progression to a sign writing apprenticeship with Terry in the early 1990s. At this stage the sign industry was vinyl centric and with a desire to be more creative he moved on to study graphic design and pursue his musical career.
Ben has recently returned from a six-year stint in America where he worked in the design and sign industries. His work for Whole Foods Market in New York City has given him insight into food industry marketing, trends and retail solutions.
Ben is passionate about the revival of artisanal sign making and design. He is a true romantic, artist, a bit of a misfit and fun to work with.
